Shikhar Dhawan, a prominent Indian cricketer, has arrived in Nepal to play for the Karnali Yaks team in the Nepal Premier League (NPL). He landed in Kathmandu on Friday evening and was welcomed by Karnali Yaks officials at Tribhuvan International Airport.
Dhawan is considered the biggest name in the league. A left-handed batsman who typically opens the innings, he has impressive international credentials. He was part of the Indian team that won the 2013 Champions Trophy and the Asia Cup in 2016 and 2018. He has also won the IPL title with the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
His international cricket statistics are remarkable. In T20 international cricket, he has scored 1,759 runs in 66 matches. Across all T20 formats, he has amassed 9,797 runs in 334 matches, including two centuries and 70 half-centuries. In the IPL alone, he has scored 6,769 runs.
Karnali’s other foreign players include Babar Hayat from Hong Kong, Chadwick Walton from the West Indies, and Zeeshan Maqsood from Oman. All three have already arrived in Nepal.
Currently, 40 foreign players from 15 countries are contracted for the NPL, with 28 players from 12 countries already in the country. Each team is required to have at least four foreign players, with the option to have up to six depending on availability.
Pokhara Avengers and Janakpur Bolts have signed six foreign players each, while Karnali Yaks and Sudurpashchim Royals have contracted four players each. The remaining four teams have signed five foreign players each.
