Chitwan Rhinos have made a winning start in the Nepal Premier League (NPL). In Sunday’s opening match, Chitwan defeated Kathmandu Gurkhas by 5 wickets, earning 2 points.
Chitwan chased down Kathmandu’s target of 112 runs in 17 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process.
For Chitwan, Santosh Karki remained unbeaten with a top score of 28 runs off 31 balls, hitting 2 fours and 1 six. Luc Benkenstein contributed 22 runs, while Sharad Vesawkar remained not out with 11 runs.
Despite Shahab Alam’s impressive performance, taking 3 wickets for Kathmandu, it wasn’t enough to stop Chitwan from securing the victory.
Earlier, after losing the toss, Kathmandu batted first and managed 111 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs, thanks to Sohail Tanvir’s brilliant 5-wicket haul. Sumit Maharjan scored 29 runs, and Michael Levitt added 25 for Kathmandu. Tanvir’s sharp bowling saw him concede just 21 runs in 4 overs while claiming 5 wickets.
