Anthony Edwards Jokes About Luka Doncic Trade Amid Injury Concerns

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards might not play in this year’s NBA All-Star Game due to conflicting reports about his health. Some sources suggest he has a groin injury, while others claim he is dealing with a cold. However, that didn’t stop him from entertaining fans with a humorous remark about the Dallas Mavericks’ surprising decision to trade Luka Doncic.

During an interview over All-Star Weekend, Edwards was asked about his weight, particularly the heaviest he has ever been in the offseason. Reports indicate that Mavericks GM Nico Harrison was concerned about Doncic’s weight, which was reportedly approaching 270 pounds, as the team considered extending his contract.

Edwards playfully responded that his heaviest offseason weight was 240 pounds.

“I hope they ain’t trade me when I was 240,” he joked.

Currently listed at 225 pounds on NBA.com, Edwards is in his fifth season with the Timberwolves.

Shocking Luka Doncic Trade Rumors

Gery Woelfel reported that before the Mavericks ultimately traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, they had also considered sending him to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo or to the Timberwolves for Anthony Edwards.

The trade of Doncic, a 25-year-old franchise player, is considered one of the most surprising moves in NBA history. The deal brought the injury-prone but defensively skilled Anthony Davis to Dallas.

Edwards Wants to Be Notified of Trade Talks

Reacting to the unexpected nature of Doncic’s trade, Edwards said he hopes teams inform their players in advance if they are being traded.

“Everybody should be informed,” Edwards stated. “I’m scared. Tim, if you’re going to trade me, let me know, dawg. When Luka got traded, that means anybody can get traded.”

He also expressed sympathy for Doncic, highlighting the shocking nature of the move.

“They say nobody knew about the trade. That’s crazy,” Edwards said. “At 25, they traded probably the best scorer in the NBA, and he didn’t even know. There’s more to this story that needs to be uncovered. You don’t just trade a guy like him after he just made the Finals. I feel bad for Luka, man.”

Edwards’ Secure Future in Minnesota

Trade rumors are nothing new for Edwards. Earlier, the Timberwolves made headlines by trading longtime franchise player Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.

However, Edwards’ future in Minnesota seems secure. He is under a fully guaranteed contract with the Timberwolves through the 2028-29 season on a five-year, $244 million deal.
