Jimmy Neesham, the star all-rounder from New Zealand, has arrived in Kathmandu to participate in the Nepal Premier League (NPL). Representing the Janakpur Bolts, Neesham expressed excitement about his first visit to Nepal and his debut in the league. He shared his enthusiasm about reuniting with teammate Ben Mike, with whom he has previously played.
The Janakpur Bolts welcomed Neesham at Tribhuvan International Airport, with team director Amit Shrestha and MD Niroj Khatri leading the reception. The Bolts started their NPL campaign on a high note, defeating the Biratnagar Kings in the opening match on Saturday, although Neesham missed the game. His arrival now adds significant strength to the Bolts’ lineup.
Neesham is among the biggest names to join the Bolts. At 34, he brings extensive international experience, having played 12 Tests, 76 ODIs, and 79 T20Is for New Zealand. He has also featured in top franchise leagues, including the IPL, and was part of New Zealand’s runner-up teams in the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Most recently, Neesham played in the ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA in June.
Under the guidance of head coach Pubudu Dassanayake, a former Nepal national team coach, the Bolts look more formidable than ever. With marquee player Aasif Sheikh and now Neesham on the roster, Janakpur is well-positioned as a strong contender in the NPL.
