Argentine midfielder Charly Alcaraz marked his first Premier League goal for Everton by mimicking Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous ‘Siu’ celebration. The 22-year-old played a key role in Everton’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, February 15.
Alcaraz joined Everton on the last day of the transfer window, arriving on loan from Brazilian club Flamengo with an option for a permanent move. He made an instant impact, assisting one goal and scoring another to help his team secure a hard-fought win at Selhurst Park.
His crucial goal in the 80th minute turned out to be the match-winner. Overjoyed, he sprinted toward the corner flag and performed Ronaldo’s signature jump and spin, much to the delight of the traveling Everton supporters.
Alcaraz has openly expressed his admiration for Ronaldo in the past. The Portuguese superstar, now 40, has been a major inspiration for him. Interestingly, Alcaraz also had a brief spell in Italy, playing for Juventus on loan in the latter half of the 2023-24 season.
The young midfielder is now the second Argentine player, after Alejandro Garnacho, to publicly show his respect for Ronaldo. This is notable since most Argentine footballers, even those who have played alongside Ronaldo—like Angel Di Maria and Paulo Dybala—generally place Lionel Messi above him. If Alcaraz gets a call-up to the Argentina national team, he might face some playful teasing from his teammates, just like Garnacho did.
Brazilian Legend Cafu Disagrees with Ronaldo Being ‘The Greatest’
Meanwhile, former Brazil and AC Milan star Cafu has dismissed claims that Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest footballer of all time. In an interview with journalist Randall Vargas, Cafu argued that several legends rank above the Portuguese forward.
“Cristiano is an incredible player, but he’s not the greatest ever. If we’re talking about football history, we must include names like Maradona, Pele, Platini, Beckenbauer, and Garrincha. These are extraordinary players. Ronaldo was the best for several years, but in the all-time debate, there are players who were even better,” Cafu stated.
Ronaldo, who recently turned 40, had earlier declared himself the most complete and best footballer in history during an interview with El Chiringuito. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is also the only player to have scored over 900 official goals.
Despite his remarkable career, Ronaldo has often been in Messi’s shadow, as their rivalry has defined modern football. However, he hopes to strengthen his legacy by leading Portugal to victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which could further support his claim of being the greatest.
