Basketball legend Michael Jordan has opened his fourth free medical clinic to help people who cannot afford healthcare. The clinic is in North Carolina, built in partnership with Novant Health. It provides medical services to people without insurance or with limited healthcare access.
Giving Back to His Hometown
The new clinic, which opened on February 19, is located in Wilmington, North Carolina—Jordan’s hometown. This is the second clinic he has funded in Wilmington. Earlier, he also helped set up two clinics in Charlotte to assist those in need.
A team of doctors and health workers will take care of patients at the clinic. It is 7,300 square feet in size and includes 12 patient rooms. The facility will be open Monday to Friday to provide medical checkups.
A $10 Million Donation for Health Services
Jordan donated $10 million in 2024 to Novant Health to build these clinics. He believes that everyone, no matter their background, should have access to good healthcare.
“Everyone deserves quality healthcare, no matter where they live or if they have insurance,” Jordan said.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, over 27 million Americans do not have health insurance. This clinic aims to help as many people as possible.
Jordan’s Success and Gratitude
Jordan, who is now 63 years old, has made a fortune beyond basketball. His net worth is $3.5 billion, mainly from businesses and sponsorships. He once owned a majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets but sold it for about $3 billion in 2023.
Despite his success, he remains connected to his hometown. Jordan is happy to see the positive impact of his clinics.
“It’s amazing to see how the first Novant clinic in Wilmington has already helped many people in less than a year,” he said.
Jordan’s Basketball Legacy
Michael Jordan is regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He played 15 seasons in the NBA for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. He won six championships with the Bulls, including two three-peats in the 1990s.
Jordan retired in 2003 but continues to influence the world in many ways, especially through his charitable work.
