New York Jets Move on from Aaron Rodgers, Focus on Quarterback Future

The New York Jets have decided to part ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason, raising questions about their next move at the position. However, this decision could improve their chances of keeping star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who reportedly grew frustrated with his role after the team acquired Davante Adams.

Wilson, entering the final guaranteed year of his rookie contract, has a fifth-year option available for 2026. With Rodgers out of the picture, retaining Wilson now seems more likely.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, tension between Rodgers and Wilson was evident throughout the season, beginning with heated exchanges during training camp. Reports suggested that Rodgers favored Adams in the passing game, leading to speculation that Wilson might request a trade.

Despite the uncertainty, Wilson delivered an impressive season, recording 101 receptions for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns.

Now, the Jets must determine their quarterback strategy moving forward. They currently have Tyrod Taylor and Jordan Travis under contract, with Taylor likely serving as a bridge quarterback for 2026. The team could also explore free agency, with options like Sam Darnold, Jameis Winston, and Justin Fields available. While unlikely, they may even consider drafting a quarterback with the seventh overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

As the Jets navigate this transition, their quarterback decision will play a crucial role in shaping the team’s future.
